Denmark has entered into a four-year national agreement with the publisher Elsevier, covering reading access to the Freedom Collection and cost-free Open Access publishing. There is no limit on the number of Open Access articles that can be published in the hybrid journals covered by the agreement.

The agreement applies to accepted articles from 1 January, 2025, to 31 December, 2028.

Open Access Publishing with Elsevier
As a corresponding author, you can publish Open Access free of charge in more than 1.600 hybrid Elsevier journals.

This ensures immediate Open Access to the publisher's version of many Danish research publications at Elsevier (with a CC-BY license). This makes it easier to comply with Open Access requirements from funding bodies and grant providers and bringing us closer to national Open Access goals.

However, for Elsevier Gold Open Access journals, you will still need to pay an APC (Article Processing Charge) for publication.

To take advantage of the agreement, you must:

• use your DTU e-mail as the corresponding author
• state DTU (Technical University of Denmark) as your institutional affiliation
• select Open Access to publish your article without a publication fee
• select a CC-BY license*

Which Journals Are Not Included?
Gold Open Access journals are not part of the cost-free Open Access publishing agreement. If you publish in these journals, you will still need to pay the APC (Article Processing Charge) as usual:
