EU Hackathon for innovative ideas for European defence
The European Commission's Defence and Innovation Programme (EUDIS) invites students, developers or early-stage startups to a hackathon to try their hand at solving real problems in defence and security technology
The European Commission invites students, developers or early-stage startup projects to a defence and security technology hackathon. The event will take place at the Aalborg University campus in Copenhagen from Friday 9 May at 15:00 to Sunday 11 May 2025.
This is the first time that the European Commission's Defence and Innovation Programme (EUDIS), supported by the European Defence Fund (EDF), is organising the Hackathon in Denmark, with the organisers this year consisting of the National Defence Technology Centre (NFC), the Confederation of Danish Industry (DI) Defence and Security, the Centre for Security Industry in Denmark (CenSec) and DTU. The prize package for this year's winners consists of private entrepreneurial counselling from industry and tech experts, as well as a paid trip to Ukraine, where participants visit local developers, companies and Ukrainian forces.
Three challenges
This year, the task is to devise technological solutions to one of the three selected challenges:
- To improve the soldier's tactical spatial awareness through wearable surveillance systems.
- To provide cost-effective protective equipment for frontline defence.
- To develop advanced medical support at the frontline.
