New Open Access figures: Increase in open and free access to research results from Danish universities
As expected, DTU remains among the top Danish universities.
DTU consistently contributes to a steady increase in Open Access publications, i.e., publications with free and unrestricted online access. This year's Open Access Indicator from the Ministry of Education and Research was, as usual, published earlier this summer.
The proportion of DTU publications published as Open Access has increased to 82.4% this year. This represents an increase of a little more than 1.5% from last year's 80.8%.
Open Access agreements
The progress is attributed, among other things, to greater awareness and utilization of our favorable publishing agreements, which DTU researchers can use when publishing.
With these agreements, researchers achieve Open Access publication in a range of journals at no cost or with a discount on the publication fee - and without embargo.
We take this opportunity to highlight these agreements and the guidance that DTU Library can provide. DTU's portfolio of agreements includes all from small societies to the broad national agreements with major publishers. The agreements cover all the various disciplines of DTU research.

Achieve Open Access with your Post-Print
Send the post-print version of your scientific articles to DTU Library. They represent an untapped potential for Open Access, as some publishers allow "parallel publishing" of the post-print version (author's accepted manuscript) in the university's research database DTU Orbit, possibly with an embargo period. The post-print version of the article thus becomes Open Access.
DTU Library takes care of registration of these post-print versions in DTU Orbit and ensures that copyright and any embargo periods for publication are observed.
This year the untapped potential corresponds to app. 300 publications. Thus, one of way to get closer to 100% Open Access for DTU's publications is for DTU researchers to send the post-print version of the articles to DTU Library.

Follow DTU's Open Access figures - as well as for departments and sections
DTU Library continuously monitors DTU's Open Access figures with data from DTU Orbit. We have integrated Open Access statistics for DTU publications into the DTU Research Output Statistics system, which you can find in DTU Findit. The statistics are designed to monitor and document input to the annual statistics.
