Informations and warnings (DTU)

DTU's oak trees have harmless caterpillar inhabitants (Oak processionary moth vs. Oak weevil)

At DTU, we don't have oak processionary caterpillars, but rather harmless oak weevils that turn into small green butterflies.

Dear everyone at DTU

On Wednesday evening it was mentioned in the news that oak processionary moth larvae were found on oak trees in Odense. Oak processionary moth can be allergenic on contact. After pupation, oak processionary moth larvae will turn into a moth.

At DTU, we have never found populations of oak processionary moth. Of course, this is something we are aware of, and we will take the appropriate measures if it happens.

Observant people may have noticed that in the spring months we often have large numbers of green caterpillars in our oak trees. This caterpillar is an oak weevil and is completely harmless. It develops into a small green butterfly.
