FAQ

Here you will find answers to the questions we often receive at the SU Office.

You can read about the general conditions for receiving SU, application procedures etc. at www.su.dk.

You can apply for SU up to one month prior to the month from which you are entitled to receive SU. For example, if you are eligible for SU from September, you can apply from 1 August. You must also ensure that you are enrolled in the study programme for which you are applying for SU.

Please note that it may take a few days from when you have accepted your student place until you can apply for SU at minSU.

You can find an overview of credit requirements for receiving SU on DTU Inside. Please note that there are currently two sets of rules, one for students enrolled before 1 September 2016, and one for students enrolled in their study programme after 1 September 2016.
You are not entitled to SU if you are on a paid internship. You must therefore notify the SU office that you are starting a paid internship by sending us a copy of your employment or internship agreement. We will then register in the system that your SU should be stopped. You do not have not opt out of your SU directly.
If you are commencing an unpaid internship, you can apply for additional SU grant portions corresponding to the period of the internship. An internship typically runs for 20 weeks, and you can receive 5 additional SU grant portions for this period. To apply, submit a copy of your employment or internship agreement, stamped and signed by the company.
Normally your tax exemption card or primary tax card is used for your SU payment. If your tax exemption card has been used and you want to use your primary tax card, you should contact the Danish Tax Authority and ask them to change your tax information. If you want to use your secondary tax card for your SU payments, you must indicate this at minSU under 'Amend your SU', under 'Tax'. You can also increase your withholding tax rate here.

You can change the end date for your study programme at minSU.

If you expect to finish your study programme after the date registered in the SU system, you must correct the end date under 'Amend your SU', under 'Extend study programme'.

If you expect to complete your degree program before the date registered in the SU system, you are not able to change the end date. However, once your end date is registered in our student administration system, a message will be sent to the SU system.

SU is paid in advance on the last working day of the month prior to the month the SU payment covers.

There are also regular SU payments every Thursday of the month. If you apply for SU too late to receive the payment on the last weekday of the previous month, you do not have to wait a whole month to get the money.

You can receive SU during the holiday between your BSc/BEng programme and MSc programme if there is no more than a two-month gap between the programmes. The only condition to be able to apply for SU is that you must be either conditionally or finally admitted to the MSc programme.

When you have completed your BSc/BEng programme, you must apply for SU for your MSc programme. You do this at minSU. Your letter of admission will indicate when you can apply for SU.

You can apply for a loan at any time of the year—including for months that have passed. The only condition is that you have received SU for your current study programme during the months you want to apply for the loan. However, you can only apply for an SU loan for the current calendar year.

If you change your study programme during the year—for example, from a BSc programme to an MSc programme—you can only receive a loan linked to the first programme if you have not yet commenced the new study programme.

The deadline for applying for SU loans is 5 December. You cannot receive an SU loan if you have interrupted or completed your study programme, are taking leave from it, or are no longer an active student.

If you resume your study programme or become an active student again, you can receive loan payments again, which you had been allocated earlier in the year.

The deadline for cancelling your SU is the 15th of the month prior to the month in which you no longer wish to receive SU.

The deadline for applying for SU is the last day of the month. For example, if you want to receive SU from August, you must apply for SU at minSU no later than 31 August.

The deadline for applying for SU in a given year is 5 December. If you apply after 5 December, you cannot receive SU until January of the following year.
