Some tips and tricks

The two most important things to bear in mind as a lecturer and a student are whether it is a recording or just a streaming without recording as well as who have access to the videos. Generally, it can be said that the more people who have access and the longer you would like to store the video products, the more things you should be aware of.

Visibility

If a student does not want to be visible in teaching activities that are streamed or recorded, the student is entitled to sit outside the streaming/recording area or to close his/her camera, unless the student's participation is mandatory according to the course description.

Remember that you cannot force a student to appear in an open forum, i.e. when a link has been shared outside DTU Learn.

Information

The students must be informed about the recording of the teaching activities, both when they sit in the room and when they follow the lecture from another place.

When a student is informed about the wish to record a teaching situation in which they participate actively with a view to storing the recordings for use in future courses on the same subject, the student shall give his/her prior consent. The consent can also be obtained after the recording of the lecture, but always before the recording is used in the coming semester. The consent shall be given voluntarily

A student may always request DTU to delete a recording in which the student appears (if the student can be seen or heard).

Students’ own recordings

Students are not allowed to record the lecture (it belongs to the lecturer according to the same rules as all teaching activities at DTU). If the student is given permission to record, the student must remember that the recordings are only for private use, unless the lecturer has given his/her permission that the recordings can be published. Only the teaching activities must be recorded and not the co-students’ comments during the class, unless they have also given their consent to the recording.

Sharing by the students

The students must not share materials from their lecturer with others, unless the lecturer tells them that they can do so.

The students must not share the link to the streaming, unless the link is public.

The students may not share the link to the recording.

Consent

If you choose to upload a recording of a teaching situation to Youtube or similar platforms (online services for content sharing), you must ensure that:

  • All consents have been obtained
  • All rights have been cleared.
If you participate in teaching activities that are recorded or streamed and do not want to be visible at all, even in case of active participation, you should contact your lecturer before the course. Most lecturers at DTU will assist you whenever possible.
Remember that you should use fictitious examples in your lectures that do not refer to any identifiable persons.

Always remember to indicate the source of all materials you use in your lectures, including your own materials.
